World Bank mission reviews Sukkur Barrage project

SUKKUR (APP) - A World Bank Implementation Support Mission on Wednesday visited the Sukkur Barrage Rehabilitation Project to assess on-ground progress and discuss key implementation issues.

Led by Francois Onimus, Senior Water Resources Management Specialist and Task Team Leader, and Zelalem Mekonnen, Water Resource Management Specialist and Co-Task Team Leader, the mission was accompanied by Noor ul Arfeen Balouch, Project Director PMO-SBIP, along with representatives of the Project Implementation Consultant and the Chinese contractor.

The delegation inspected various project activities at Sukkur Barrage on June 17, 2026. Following the site visit, a detailed review meeting was held at the PIC office in Sukkur and at the Chinese contractor’s Camp-A on the left bank upstream of the barrage to evaluate progress and address important technical and administrative matters.

Senior officers and individual consultants who attended included Abdul Fatah Memon, Deputy Director PMO, Dr. Imran Aziz Tunio, Technical Officer, Abdul Razaque Memon, Project Coordination Specialist,

Jai Ram, PCS, Mumtaz Ali Ghumro, Executive Engineer Mechanical,and Mohsan Masood, E&M Specialist PMO, along with other field staff.

The Sukkur Barrage Rehabilitation Project, funded by the World Bank under the Sindh Barrages Improvement Project, aims to enhance the safety, reliability and operational efficiency of the 94-year-old structure, a lifeline for irrigation across upper Sindh.
